To support the rangers on the ground in their operations, Mugie has a K9 team composed of three dogs and four handlers. Their goal is to support Mugie and the surrounding communities in solving wildlife crimes and incidents of livestock and property theft as well as catching trespassers onto Mugie.
The three working dogs are, Male Tusker and females Ulinzi and Radi. Mugie House guests love to visit the dogs and enjoy experiencing a mock training exercise which demonstrates just how accurate the dogs are at tracking down a scent.
Any funds raised are greatly received. These aid in the upkeep of the dogs (food, vet bills and training) as well as their handlers salaries. It costs around USD300 per month to cover the expenses of a dog plus the handler.
