On the 1st January 2024, Kenya replaced its eVisa system with an Electronic Travel Authorization system (eTA), which is now operational. Apart from holders of valid Kenya Passports, holders of Kenya Permanent Residence, valid Work Permits and Passes and Citizens of the East African Partner States, all visitors including infants and children who intend to travel to the Republic of Kenya, must have an approved eTA before the start of their journey.
Visitors must apply for the eTA via www.etakenya.go.ke and pay a processing fee of USD $34. All eTA applications for Kenya should be submitted at least 3 days prior to travel to ensure adequate time for authorisation, however, travellers can submit their applications as early as 3 months prior to travel. It is highly recommended that travellers apply as soon as they have booked their accommodations and flight tickets and we suggest that families apply as a group.
Please have the following documents ready before starting your application.
Requirements for all travellers:
- Valid passport for at least six (6) month after your planned date of arrival into Kenya with at least one blank page.
- Selfie or passport-type photo.
- Contact information, email address and phone number.
- Details of your arrival and departure itinerary.
- Accommodation booking confirmation(s).
- Credit card, debit card, Apple pay or other means of payment.
Requirements based on your country of residence and travel history, the following may also be required:
- Yellow fever certificate.
- Other vaccination(s) or test results certificates.
Your eTA is valid for a single entry into Kenya, however, there are some exceptions to this. Your eTA remains valid for more than one entry if:
- You visit one of the following EAC Partner States: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, AND;
- You don’t visit any other country, AND;
- Your eTA has not expired (90 days from issuance)
Once submitted, please allow for three working days for your approval to come through. If you would like to, you can check the status of your existing application via www.etakenya.go.ke using your unique reference number.
Whilst we make every effort to ensure our information is accurate, please ensure that you check the latest travel requirements on Kenya’s Official Government Website and also contact your Foreign Office prior to departure for the latest up-to-date advice.
