The Great Rift Valley Safari

Boating on Lake Naivasha

At over 6,000 feet, Lake Naivasha is the highest lake in the Great Rift Valley and certainly one of the most beautiful. Fringed by papyrus and with the extinct Mount Longonot as a backdrop, this is a wonderful place to photograph birds.

Loldia House has a resident ornithologist who will gladly join you on a boat ride around Lake Naivasha, or on game drives, to identify an extensive range of avifauna.

While out on the water, you’ll notice both long-tailed and great cormorants drying their wings, pink-backed pelicans, herons, a variety of colourful kingfishers and of course, the iconic African fish eagle. Other species seen around the lake include the Goliath herons, African jacanas, great white egrets, white-fronted bee-eaters and saddle-billed storks.

You may also spot plenty of hippos, reedbucks, giraffes, wildebeests and monitor lizzards around the lakeshore.
