Governors’ Mugie House – Luxury Safari Stay

5* Had an amazing time at Governors’ Mugie. Fantastic private drives with the lion tracking being a real highlight. A quieter alternative to the maasai mara, with different wildlife and great night drives too. Akiba was the best guide we have had, extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. Highly recommend!

Mugie Camp- A Governor’s Camp gem!! Mugie Camp-is the newest of the Governor’s Camp Collection in Kenya and boy is it a gem!!
The camp facilities were superb! From the moment we walked into our room and found rose petals decorating the bed and bathroom to the fireplace that was lit every night for us, we felt treated like royalty!
George, Ben, David, Samuel, Neema were fabulous and so attentive to our every need!
Our guide, Akiba was so knowledgeable about the animals and the area that he found lions, cheetah’s and other difficult to find animals with ease! He was kind, and so funny! He went out of his way to make sure we saw what we wanted to see rather than having a set drive each day.
Every day was a new experience. We were there 4 days and didn’t want to leave!!
I can’t put into words how spectacular this camp is!!!
The location is so unique because, unlike many camps in Kenya, Mugie is a private conservancy and there were only a couple of other jeeps out each day! It felt like a private showing of the animals living there!
We were also able to take the jeep off the main roads, increasing the chance to find the animals resting in hidden places!

The food was superb! The staff prepared breakfast for us each day to eat while we were in our game drives and one day even surprised us with a full breakfast overlooking the beautiful river! We saw sunrises and sunsets that will be embedded in my mind forever.
You have GOT to stay here if you want an African safari trip if a lifetime!!

Absolutely suoperb. This was truly the icing on the cake.
This was our 4th trip to Kenya using the Governors Camp group but Mugie House was a new addition since our last visit.
From the moment we pulled up on the driveway we felt special. We were met by the manager, George, who introduced us to the team:
Sammy - the room steward
Ben - the sommelier
Ken - the waiter
Akiba - the guide
At all times, we were greeted with smiles and very efficient service and I cannot find anything to fault the team on. Brilliant.
The room was massive, spotlessly clean with stunning views and a plunge pool. More power outlets and usb charging points that you could ever need.
The food was inventive and very tasty - not a bland buffet that we have seen at some lodges. Full credit to the chef.
The highlight of the stay was meeting Tala the semi-tame giraffe who eats out of your hand in the car and the anti-poaching team with their bloodhounds.

Fantastic place, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our first time in Africa, we had no idea what to expect but Mugie House and the Conservancy were just amazing.
The staff were brilliant, the food was fabulous, the lodge was stunning, nothing was too much trouble.
It was everything and more than we had hoped for, our guides, Nicholas and Julius were brilliant, thoroughly recommend them, just lovely knowledgeable guys.
The relief manager Pierre was brilliant, friendly and couldn’t do enough for us.
We would return to Africa just to visit Mugie, just an all round fantastic experience .

So worth it! Mugie House is a Special Place This place is so special! It was our first stop on our Kenyan holiday and we saw dozens of animals just on the drive from the air strip to the lodge. Our cottage was spacious and luxurious (maybe the Garden one?). The lodge staff were gracious and made us feel comfortable (we generally stay at more 'budget' places but this was worth the splurge). For game drives, we had a guide and vehicle to ourselves and we crisscrossed the Mugie Conservancy finding amazing wildlife. Our guide Nicholas was so knowledgeable about the different animals and their habits and was friendly and patient sharing the information. The Food is a category in itself! So varied and fresh, every meal was enjoyable. We could watch elephants and giraffes from the patio at breakfast and lunch. After dark expect to be escorted by armed staff to and from your cabin, they take safety seriously. We can recommend a visit to the tracking dogs, it was interesting to learn how they're used to help the community and to practice with them. Our only regret was not staying longer.

John Lomelo is the man! Amazing game drives with John Lomelo. Very kind and considerate.
He spotted and educated and drove. Saw some up close and personal animals and birds. He is excellent!
Beautiful conservancy and accommodations. Super friendly staff. Very tasty and healthy meals.

A Dream Safari Everything about my stay at Governor Mugie's House was special. The place is absolutely stunning with so many incredible views. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, easy to talk to and willing to go out of their way to make your stay just that extra special.

My top five favourite things about this place:

1. Tala, the resident giraffe. If you make a visit there make sure you pass by and say hello. She loves her treats and will sniff you properly if she thinks you are hiding some carrots in your pockets :)

2. The staff and community projects that Governor Mugie supports. There is a really big team who work very well together. There is a high level of coordination and professionalism across the board. They are incredibly attentive and knowledgeable about the landscape. We got to see how their conservation efforts are directly benefiting the community they support as well as promoting the protection of biodiversity within the area. Our guide, Akiba, Pierre and Veronica and just about everyone we interacted with from the staff was absolutely wonderful. They all really work well as a team.

3. The food was unbelievably good. The menu is diverse with rich flavours and unique items that will keep you guessing on what the next thing will be. My absolute highlight was how serious they took my gluten intolerance and went out of the way to ensure I had a running supply of gluten free bread, cake, cookies and pastries. I have never seen this level of attention paid to people with gluten intolerance. I was really really grateful. My birthday cake was very special and I loved the wonderful surprise they planned out just for me.

4. The space and the views....Everywhere you look is a celebration of natural beauty, tucked away in a private setting surrounded by all sorts of wildlife and plants. The sunrise is such a special treat as you feel as though you get to watch the world waking up with Mt Kenya majestically standing out in the background. The aesthetics in each room is carefully and tastefully put together. It invites you to stay longer and longer. My room was so spacious and stunning as was every other space curated within this facility.

5. The privacy. Even with other guests around you feel like you have your own space to relax and enjoy yourself. There is a small library and space to play games. There are many nooks to just sit down and take in the views. There is also a selection of outdoor activities that will engage you throughout your stay.

Overall, this is a place you want to go back to over and over again. It is so special. Do not bother carrying any electronics or work with you. Come prepared to eat good food and enjoy a great selection of drinks.

Recommended minimum duration to enjoy this place will be three nights. Trust me on this.

To the entire Governors team - I cannot thank you enough. Winning the Governors' Camp Collection 50 Year Anniversary competition with the East African Wild Life Society has been such a special and momentous experience in my life. I will never forget this trip and I have every intention of coming back!

Wow We knew this place would be good but it blew us away.
From the moment we came up the drive to Mugie House it started.
From the staff greeting us and the Manager , George walking us to the reception area we were made to feel very special.
Our cottage was beautiful and kept very clean.
So much good food and drink and served with a smile and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The views from the breakfast and lunch area were amazing.
We must have a special word for our guide and now good friend Soloman.
A gentleman in everyway. His knowledge and love for nature knows no boundaries.
From the smallest leaf to the biggest trees and the smallest insert to the largest elephant he told us about them.
The stand out moment for us was watching 3 lions sat around waiting to hunt , they were in no hurry ,so Solomon parked up close but not getting in the way . Sundowners and lots of photography , want more could you ask for on a safari.
