Governors’ Camp Collection proudly supports eight rural schools and a community centre across three regions; the Masai Mara, The Great Rift Valley and Laikipia.

If you wish to leave a positive impact during your safari, there are several meaningful ways to support and connect with our local communities:

  • Sponsor Essential Supplies: Let us handle the logistics. We can purchase much-needed items locally on your behalf—directly supporting nearby businesses—and help you distribute them to the community. (If you prefer to bring items from home, please refer to our list of specific needs below).

  • Champion Conservation Education: We proudly run the Children in the Wilderness programme within our partner schools. Guests are very welcome to get involved by joining our weekly Eco-Club activities, or you can choose to make a donation towards the running of this inspiring conservation education programme.

  • Support Education & Nutrition: We actively encourage financial contributions towards our long-term community initiatives. Donations are gratefully received for our Bursary Fund, as well as the daily lunch and porridge programmes we run in various local schools to keep students nourished.

  • Connect with the Community: If you would like to experience the impact first-hand, we would be delighted to arrange a guided visit to a neighbouring school or community during your time at camp. (Please note: School visits are arranged during regular term times, excluding examination periods).

Basic Stationery

  • Chalk (white and coloured)
  • Pencils, crayons, markers, erasers
  • Glue sticks, pencil sharpeners
  • Pens (blue and black ballpoint)
  • Exercise books (lined and squared)
  • Compasses, protractors, rulers, scissors
  • Calculators
  • Art supplies (paints and colours)

Learning Materials

  • English dictionaries
  • Encyclopedias
  • Educational magazines
  • Wall charts (human body, math, language, science, world maps)
  • English flashcards (alphabet, math, word)
  • Reading books (for any age group)
  • Educational games (puzzles etc).
  • Solar lights or torches (used for doing homework in homes without any electricity)

Sports/outdoor activity equipment

  • Soccer balls, Basket balls, Volley balls, Netballs
  • Jumping/skipping ropes/hula-hoops
  • Team uniforms (second hand are gladly accepted)
  • Shoes (football, running shoes etc- second hand are gladly accepted)
  • Caps/hats
  • Medals and trophies (Used are also perfect)
  • Reusable water bottles

Clothes/shoes/toys

  • Second hand clothes and shoes of any size can be donated to underprivileged members of the community
  • Second hand toys/teddies/story books

First Aid/Health Kits

  • Sanitary items (reusable sanitary pad kits are preferred- we can source these in Kenya)
  • Band aids, bandages

We suggest you choose some items from these lists, rather than gifting other items that may be politely declined – such as candy/sweets and balloons which are harmful for the children and the environment.
