On arrival, each child receives a branded cap in lovely safari colours, a reusable water bottle to help reduce plastic waste, an animal checklist, and a set of colouring pencils made from recycled newspaper.
Safari activities for kids include target practice with handmade wooden bows and arrows, as well as making a piece of Maasai beaded jewellery with the help of a Maasai mama – hands-on experiences that bring the culture and wildlife of the Mara to life.
The Governors’ Cub Club is designed to educate and inspire, offering children the chance to learn about wildlife, conservation and Maasai culture in ways that go far beyond the classroom. While game drives shared as a family remain a highlight, the safari experience offers so much more for young explorers willing to look a little more closely.
Our top picks for learning about wildlife include the importance of ecosystems, tree planting, identifying animal tracks and footprints (with the chance to make a plaster of paris mould of a clear print), and identifying birds by their different sounds and nests.
