Kenya
We can organise a visit to the Loldia School. The manager of Loldia House and longstanding guests have together formed the Loldia School Fund, a UK registered charitable trust, which has worked hard to improve the school for the children of the area.
To date the school has been completely rebuilt, making it one of the best schools in the region. Scholarships have been offered to primary school leavers to attend secondary school, and some of the brighter students have gone on to Universities in Kenya and South Africa. The school also serves the wider community offering evening adult literacy classes and a kindergarten. The Governors’ Camp Collection supports the work of the Loldia School Fund which is helping provide a standard of education that enables the children attending to better their circumstances and find a way out of the poverty that exists in this area of Kenya. If you would like to make a donation to the school, then please do this through the company accounts. Cash given to the accountant should be exchanged for an official company receipt.
At Governor’s Camp Collection, community tourism is far more than an add-on to the safari experience; it’s a long-standing commitment to the people who have shaped and protected these landscapes for generations. Our approach to community-based tourism ensures that every visit creates a genuine impact, supporting local livelihoods while giving guests a deeper, more authentic understanding of Maasai culture.
For over four decades, we’ve partnered with neighbouring Maasai communities through conservation projects, education programmes, and employment initiatives. These long-term relationships form the heart of our community-led tourism model, ensuring communities are not only involved but also empowered to shape tourism in ways that benefit them directly.
Every initiative, visit, and experience is guided by community input, respecting cultural traditions and ensuring tourism generates meaningful social and economic value.
Governor’s Camp Collection contributes directly to a range of community programmes, reinforcing our leadership in community-based tourism. These include:
• Education support: Scholarships, school improvements, and ongoing learning resources • Healthcare assistance: Local clinics and community health initiatives • Employment and training: Providing opportunities for young people to build careers in tourism • Conservation partnerships: Working together to protect wildlife and habitats
Guests who participate in community visits help sustain these initiatives, ensuring tourism continues to uplift and empower the people who live alongside Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife areas.
Luxury travel today is about more than comfort; it’s about purpose. Governors’ Camp is proud to be recognised as a leader in sustainable, community-led tourism, working with local partners to ensure that both wildlife conservation and community wellbeing thrive together.
We uphold strict ethical standards, ensuring all interactions are respectful, community-approved, and beneficial to the families and projects involved.
Choosing Governor’s Camp Collection means choosing a safari experience that is immersive, responsible, and deeply connected to Kenya’s people. Our commitment to community tourism ensures that your journey leaves a positive legacy, enriching not only your time in the Maasai Mara but also the future of the communities that call it home.
